For Dividend Plays, Take a Look at the Leaders

As a follow-up to last week's column on aggressive dividend stocks, I've compiled a more complete list of leading dividend stocks in leading industries. I filtered through Investor's Business Daily's top 40 industries (from a total of 197) and noted the top three stocks in each, as determined by their earnings-per-share ranking, or EPS, and their relative strength ratings, or RS, coming up with 120 candidates. For a quick review, IBD calculates the EPS rating by "combining a company's three-year rate of profit growth with recent quarterly earnings." For example, a rating of 90 would mean a company's earnings over the past three years (more weight given to recent quarters) were better than 90% of all publicly traded companies in IBD's database.
