I know it is easy to bash every executive on Wall Street. People hate them now. I don't blame them. But I genuinely believe that the survivors now, including many of the executives left to testify today, especially the heads of Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, are truly battle-tested.
I think they make it.
Of course there were some truly repulsive execs who drove their companies into the ground: Stan O'Neal and then John Thain at Merrill, Richard Fuld at Lehman, Jimmy Cayne at Bear. These were some of the most arrogant people I have ever met. They were all Neros! (These Merrill bonuses to the top dogs are so horrible that I hope Andrew Cuomo hounds them to the ends of the earth.)
But we have to recognize that the survivors will thrive, particularly the two mentioned, who will truly thrive under the new Geithner plan, which...
