Given there are shorts in just about everything -- some remnants of shorts here, some puts there -- I imagine that Yum! Brands will have to be up big tomorrow on the backs of that negativity. In fact it will be a great test case for three reasons:
There was lots of chatter that Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC were all doing terribly in America.
China had been doing pretty terribly, at least in the last few quarters, vs. expectations, and no one figured it would be better this time.
Darden reported a weak number and gave terrible guidance last week, Red Lobster being particularly bad.
It turns out that China was very strong, enough to offset anything negative in the United States, and raw costs were well below plan, something that didn't benefit Darden at all.
