
Lowe's Could Make Scotts a Fast Grower

Lowe's gives the green light to buying Scott Miracle-Gro this morning. Lowe's conference call is a blessing for buying anything do-it-yourself, but the most important segment was outdoor, including gardening, and it is a nationwide trend.
Scotts is by far the best way to play it. The company reported a good quarter but did not raise its outlook. That makes the stock even better, given that the April month was strong, and you can tell that Lowe's is signaling a very strong May.
Scotts has two drags away from America: a strong dollar problem from an otherwise strong business in Europe, and the retail problems at Smith & Hawken, the high-priced outdoor furniture line. The stand-alone stores are too expensive, considering that Scotts can sell through the online channels and through the Lowe's and Home Depot furniture sections.
