When Viacom split up, it created the perfect growth security. Except it wasn't the one management thought the Street would embrace. It's CBS, not Viacom.
I chatted last night with a hedge fund analyst about Viacom and CBS and, as is typical, he loved Viacom for its growth. I listened politely, of course, because I have become a statesman, but the young guy didn't get it.
Wall Street's a changed place. We want dividend growth, a sign of sustenance and substance. We want to get the free money and we will sacrifice getting where we need to go speedily for that security blanket.
