From the way the media played the weakness in retail, you would think there was actual weakness in retail. The reality is that the stocks had been sluggish for a month, and now that the numbers are out, you see people clamoring for the group. That's how you can explain the strength on in-line performances for Federated -- which I really like -- and J.C. Penney and the explosion in the teen apparel names, as well as the benign action in Gap stores.
I continue to believe the best value in retail remains with Eddie Lampert and Sears. I believe there's lots in store to the upside here whenever the Sears Canada thing gets resolved. When it does, I believe Eddie will be more likely to make some good moves for shareholders.
