
Lehman's Shadow Will Follow Geithner

On the eve of Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner's revealing of his un-fleshed-out plan, it is important to have some history, some history that dogs him and will dog him for his tenure: Lehman Brothers. Five months ago this week, Lehman Brothers bit the dust. Five months ago, the world changed, and, despite periodic attempts by those who like the industrials to make a case for them, it has been all downhill for global economies worldwide, except for China, because China is cash-rich.
As Geithner campaigns for his bank rescue plan while he also fixes the autos -- thankless job -- you can only imagine how difficult the path is for solving this problem.
While I have praised the progress Geithner has undergone, abandoning his laissez-faire methods and then tacking away from nationalization and the bad-bank idea -- which is something I believe would cost the taxpayers $5 trillion...
