
Semis Rise on Investor Forgiveness, Hope

To err is human, to forgive is to buy semiconductor and semiconductor equipment stocks.
Just a couple of days ago, the market was all in a tizzy that, with the exception of Intel and Texas Instruments, the quarter was not that kind to the SOX brethren. We saw little growth in the semi-equipment plays and disappointing growth in communications semiconductors.
But that was then and this is now. We are watching an incredible rally today in the SOX off Taiwan Semi and STMicroelectronics and some chatter that Applied Materials is better than expected.
Only in these groups do the stocks go down a tad on the fundamentals and then go up wildly on hope and hype.
It's tough, very tough, to make a judgment about what is right with these stocks. Any minor improvement takes them up much more than any major negative. Any positive data...
