Comcast is expected to report modest growth in third quarter 2009, a slight uptick from difficult results posted in the second quarter. The company's financial results, however, are likely to be overshadowed by continued debate about the NBC Universal transaction with General Electric . The latest reports suggest that the NBC Universal deal is almost done and it could even be announced prior to the quarterly report. Then again, not announcing a deal gives Comcast a very good excuse to not answer any questions related to the deal.
The deal really is central to the investment case for Comcast. Investors are interested in how Comcast will spend its high and likely long-term stable free cash flow. Will it be on vertical integration a la NBC Universal? Will it be horizontal integration via a purchase of more cable system assets? Will the company stand pat and return...
