Watching the train wreck that is the U.S. economy and the attempts to fix the problems, I am beginning to understand why the stock market is so pessimistic about future prospects. There are simply no incentives being offered to investors and consumers to change their negative opinions and corresponding economic actions. Why would anyone hire a worker or buy a house (unless it is in foreclosure and marked down 50%) in this environment?
The stock market is constantly discounting the future prospects engendered by these government plans and prices cratered last week in response. I wish I could be more optimistic as stock prices decline, but my indicators simply refuse to confirm that a major bottom is close at hand.
