There's plenty of evidence that stocks reflect trough valuations already. If you need to see what I mean, go to Goldman Sachs' work today on the oil service industry. First, unlike the Morgan Stanley machinery analyst who it now looks like downgraded Caterpillar and Deere at the bottom pending depression, the Goldman analyst correctly waited for a big bounce before taking the oil service stocks to the woodshed with downgrades of Halliburton and Diamond Offshore and a removal of Transocean from the conviction buy list. I like the timing after RIG's huge bounce off the $56 level -- although the stock is down 40% year over year.
What's most interesting is that even though near-term numbers and day rates are holding up after huge price increases, the analyst just insists that they cannot hold and is using, for example, a 50% cut...
