Another one of my Worst-Run Companies in the U.S. has filed for bankruptcy. This time it's Six Flags, which should change its slogan to "More Flags, Worst-Run."
Every year in October I publish my list of worst-run companies in the U.S. Let's take a look at how they have fared:
2006 Inductees:
1. Alcoa: The company has managed to barely survive. The stock is sitting at levels not seen since the early 1990s.
2. Lucent, now part of Alcatel-Lucent: The failure of Nortel may have helped Alcatel-Lucent, but the company is still on life support.
3. Cablevision: Who knows what the Dolans have up their sleeve next. The company is highly indebted and remains a going concern but not necessarily a good investment.
4. Janus Capital: This asset manager never survived the tech crash. It is irrelevant in the world of investment advisory.
5. Sharper Image -- bankrupt.
