Dreamliner a Nightmare for Aerospace ETFs

ETF investors holding PowerShares Aerospace & Defense ETF and iShares Dow Jones US Aerospace & Defense should be prepared for a pinch as top holdings Boeing and Lockheed Martin continue to struggle. Boeing's abysmal third-quarter earnings report reflected the troubles the company has been facing. With a $3.5 billion added charge for their delayed 787 Dreamliner and revamped 747-8, the firm posted a net loss of $1.56 billion, or $2.33 per share. This was steeper than the $2.10 per share loss that analysts had been estimating. While this is staggering at face value, a Bloomberg report puts the loss into perspective: According to their records dating back to 1983, this drop is the largest Boeing has ever seen.
