Own the Fat of the Land With Cresud

The last time I wrote about Argentine farming giant Cresud, shares were changing hands at $11, which seemed like a tremendous bargain. Then the markets tanked, and Cresud fell below $5 for awhile only to rebound to $11 last month. It's been a rocky road but, as fellow RealMoney contributor Sham Gad pointed out last week, the investment thesis has not changed and following a pullback the past few weeks, Cresud looks compelling at under $9. I own a lot of companies with vast land holdings and attempt to diversify them in terms of region, quality and land usage. Cresud adds some non-U.S. land exposure to the portfolio as well as an element of risk given the state of Argentina's political landscape, reputation as a high-inflation/high-unemployment economy and recent farmer protests regarding subsidies.
